Ricardo McDougal (1977) did not finish his degree in cultural & social education, because his priority was writing lyrics and rap. His hobby became a fulltime job with the successful rap group Opgezwolle. With this crew he won several prices in The Netherlands in a short time, like Gouden Grepen, State Awards and a Zilveren Harp. In 2007 the group split up and Ricardo, aka Phreako Rico, continued working with his friend and rap partner Sticks. Together and solo they produced more than 10 albums. Apart from many popstages, there are little festivals where they did not perform. Like Pinkpop, Oerol, Bevrijdingsfestivals and as much as 10 times at Lowlands. Today, Rico is still active in the field of music and every year he tours through The Netherlands to perform on many popstages. In collaboration with Travers Welzijn, he created a community centre which they named Fakkelteit, where about 50 young adults every week can spend their time on (rap)music in the broadest sense.
With more than 20 years experience, Rico learned that you can only properly convey a raptext if the flow, delivery and content make a perfect match. These skills he can use perfectly with his voice over work. (photo: Nienke van der Ploeg)
