Recently I was listening to a podcast interview in which most of the pauses and umms were beautifully cut out. And I wondered: is that good or bad? Should you cut out the noise completely or not?<\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n

So, just yesterday I was listening to a podcast where most of the silences and ,,euh\u2019s” and ,,ah\u2019s” were beautifully being cut out.And then I was wondering. Is that good or is that bad?<\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n

After the recording of a podcast interview, should you cut out the clutter extremely or not? Well, listening I was thinking hmm… podcasting is like radio, but it isn\u2019t live. And you have the possibility to cut out the clutter and you can get the chainsaw in when you hear five minutes of absolute boredom. Yes! But on the other hand, it can affect the spontaneity or rawness of a podcast.<\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n

For example, if a presenter asks a question to the one being interviewed, and you cut out the pause which comes after that then you\u2019re cutting out suspense. Two things are happening then: When you cut out the pause or the euh which comes after that after that moment where the one who\u2019s being interviewed is thinking about how to answer the question, you as a listener, also won\u2019t have the chance to think about the question.<\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n

While doing that you\u2019re cutting out the moment where a listener can think hmm… how would I respond\u2019? Or \u2018hey that was a good question, you\u2019ve got him by the balls\u2019. So, where you had the chance to let the listener have a moment to participate in the interview, you cutted it out.<\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n

In other words: there are pros and cons in cutting down interviews in podcasting.<\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n
